A Santa Teresa hotel wasn’t always the plan. However, the town quickly made itself impossible to ignore.
When we opened Sendero, our goal was to build something rooted in the rhythm of Playa Guiones. Surrounded by jungle and just steps from one of the most consistent surf breaks in the world, Sendero was designed to feel calm, connected, and welcoming. Whether guests came to surf, work remotely, or slow down, the space supported that intention.
At the time, we didn’t plan to open a second hotel. But then, we found Santa Teresa. And instantly, it had that same pull.
A Town That Shares Our Values
Santa Teresa, much like Nosara, isn’t just beautiful. More importantly, it attracts people who arrive with purpose. The surf, the natural surroundings, the wellness culture, and the strong sense of community all felt familiar, yet distinct.
On one hand, Santa Teresa feels grounded. On the other, it’s vibrant and alive. Its linear layout along a coastal road gives it a buzzy beach-town energy. Still, it remains deeply connected to nature, with quiet corners and wild landscapes never far away.
Just like Nosara, Santa Teresa draws travelers who value movement, thoughtful design, good food, and simplicity. Because of that alignment, choosing this town felt like a natural next step for our Santa Teresa hotel.
A New Energy, With a Familiar Approach
We never wanted to replicate Sendero in a new location. Instead, we wanted to create something that truly reflected Santa Teresa.
Hotel Fermata was designed to mirror the spirit of the town. It’s modern yet natural, refined yet easygoing. The rooms sit just steps from the sand, surrounded by palms and the constant sound of the sea. Every detail encourages guests to slow down and fully arrive in the moment.
Where Sendero feels lush and tucked into the jungle, Fermata is more open and ocean-facing, positioned directly in front of La Lora. Even so, both properties share the same foundation: intentional design, relaxed luxury, and hospitality that feels personal rather than performative.
A Natural Fit for Movement and Wellness
From the start, Santa Teresa stood out as a place where people come to reconnect. Not only with nature, but also with themselves and with others. Its established surf culture and growing wellness scene made that clear.
At Fermata, we leaned fully into this energy. We created a wellness center that supports daily movement and mindfulness. In addition, we launched Chorotegas, our in-house surf school, to offer experiences rooted in awareness and joy, not just performance.
As with Sendero, the goal is simple. We offer structure and guidance if you want it, and complete freedom if you don’t.
For Travelers Who Want to Experience Both
Many guests who stay in Nosara ask us where else in Costa Rica feels similar. At the same time, travelers who visit Santa Teresa often fall in love with both towns. While each destination has its own personality, together they create a powerful pairing.
Santa Teresa offers livelier beach-town energy, while Nosara provides a quieter, more contemplative pace. As a result, exploring both destinations gives travelers a fuller picture of the Nicoya Peninsula. We explore this relationship in more depth in our guide to Santa Teresa and Nosara as surf town sisters with different souls, where we share what makes each place unique and why they complement each other so naturally.
Together, these experiences reflect the same philosophy behind our Santa Teresa hotel: intentional travel, wellness-driven living, and spaces that allow you to feel more like yourself.
Our Next Chapter
Hotel Fermata represents a new chapter for us. Still, the story remains the same. Thoughtful design, meaningful experiences, and room to breathe are at the heart of everything we do.
We’re excited to welcome you. Book your stay at Hotel Fermata in Santa Teresa, or learn more about Sendero Hotel & Villas in Nosara to experience both sides of the Nicoya Peninsula.
